The Oklahoma Department of Libraries (ODL) supports the efforts of library and community based volunteer literacy programs serving adults with low literacy skills by providing funding opportunities. Grants are competitive and are available at several funding levels depending on number of learners served as well as implementation of ODL’s Quality Standards for Oklahoma Literacy Programs. In FY15, the agency awarded $320,000 to local literacy programs. The grants were used for such activities as:
Current community literacy proposals (RFP) were announced May 1, 2015 with applications due June 17, 2015. Applications will be accepted from Oklahoma public library and community-based volunteer literacy programs. The availability and amount of FY16 grants will be dependent on the level of state appropriations to the Oklahoma Department of Libraries. Health Literacy proposals from Oklahoma public libraries and community-based volunteer literacy programs are will be available in September 2015.
